First-class bush taxis in Madagascar are said to be the ultimate travel hack for exploring the country on a budget. Providing a more comfortable and secure alternative to traditional bush taxis, they attract both local travellers and foreigners seeking convenience. While classic bush taxis, in use for decades, remain widespread due to their affordability and extensive coverage of rural areas, these luxury versions offer more spacious seating, a limited number of passengers, daytime-only travel for enhanced safety, and additional services such as meals and snacks on board. Currently, these bush taxis operate on specific routes such as Antananarivo-Morondava and Morondava-Mahajanga, mainly serving the most touristy areas. However, an increasing number of companies are gradually expanding their networks to other destinations such as Antsirabe, Mahajanga, Diego-Suarez, Nosy Be, and Tuléar. The price difference remains minimal compared to traditional bush taxis, generally ranging from 5,000 Ar (€1) to 30,000 Ar (€10), depending on the additional services included. To secure a seat, it is advisable to book at least a day in advance, or preferably 2 to 3 days ahead, allowing for a more relaxed journey with departures and arrivals directly in city centres, ensuring a much more enjoyable travel experience.
