Our little pleasures around Ambatolampy

Ambatolampy, a charming town in the Merina region nestled on the RN7, is the perfect stop-off point for an authentic getaway in Madagascar’s Highlands. It’s the ideal place to learn more about Merina culture through its foundries, artisan markets, handmade horn and aluminum sculptures, lively local atmosphere, and delicious Malagasy meals like vary amin’ny anana. Ambatolampy: Tradition and craftsmanship
This small, cool-climate town is famous for its artisanal aluminum foundries. You can visit workshops where families perpetuate traditional skills, transforming salvaged materials into genuine works of art such as zebus or bicycles. Most notably, they’re renowned for their mastery of cooking pot design. Don’t leave without a souvenir !

Nature and hiking at Mount Tsiafajavona
Culminating at 2,650 meters, Mount Tsiafajavona is a paradise for hikers. Its pine forests, waterfalls, and ponds punctuate a memorable ascent, offering spectacular panoramic views from the top. However, the climb requires strong legs and endurance !

Gourmet break at Behenjy
A few kilometers before Ambatolampy, Behenjy is known as the kingdom of Malagasy foie gras, a local delicacy crafted with care. For gourmet travellers, it’s a regular feature on our tours. Don’t miss the menakely, the delicious rice fritters, as well as the sausages and chicken roasted with local spices, offered by the merchants of the old railway station.

History and culture at the Rova de Tsinjoarivo
Not far from Ambatolampy, discover the Rova de Tsinjoarivo, a former royal residence perched high above the town. It overlooks the majestic Ambavaloza Falls, a place steeped in serenity and history. Rovas, a common feature of the kingdoms of central Madagascar, bear witness to Madagascar’s royal heritage. While some have unfortunately been destroyed by fire, each site tells a fascinating story.
