Entry/stay formalities in Madagascar

Before you can start exploring this wonderful country, you will need to familiarize yourself with the entry and stay formalities. In this article, we give you the crucial information for your Madagascar travel documentation.

VISA

For stays of less than three months, entry and residence visas are mandatory and can only be affixed to passports valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Madagascar. This so-called non-immigrant visa can be issued upon arrival at the airport. This visa cannot be extended or transformed into a long-stay visa and does not give the right to engage in paid activities.

Madagascar Visa Rates, (subject to change by the Malagasy authorities):

Non-immigrant VISA for stays of less than 90 days :

  • 0 to 30 days : 20 euros
  • 31 to 60 days : 25 euros
  • 61 to 90 days : 35 euros

The short stay VISA less than 15 days can be issued free of charge upon arrival at the international airport in Madagascar with the payment of a tax of 10 euros

The immigrant VISA

Immigrant VISAs are convertible to long stays:

  • VISA 1 month convertible : 35 euros

Tourist taxes entering Madagascar:

Since a few years, a tourist tax of 10 euros must be paid by any foreigner entering Madagascar.

Documents required at the time of your entry:

  • Passport is required and valid for 6 months after the date of return. The passport must have at least 2 blank pages facing each other.
  • Passengers bound for Madagascar must present a paper copy of their electronic ticket upon arrival. Any passenger who does not present this document will be turned away by the authorities.
  • A return or onward ticket (with visas or residence permits for the country of return or onward travel if necessary) and an accommodation address (hotel name is sufficient).

Safety fee for departure from Madagascar:

The Civil Aviation Authority of Madagascar informs all passengers departing from Madagascar that a security fee of USD 14.35 per passenger is payable at all international airports in Madagascar and must be paid directly at the airport, except for passengers in direct transit (can be changed at any time)
