This itinerary is defined by its contrasts, charting a course through the distinct ecosystems of Northern Madagascar. It moves from the montane cloud forests of Amber Mountain to the sculpted limestone world of Ankarana National Park, offering a comprehensive perspective on the region’s unique geology and endemic wildlife, away from the more frequented southern routes.
Experience the cool air and cascading waterfalls of Montagne d’Ambre, home to some of the world’s smallest chameleons, then traverse the sharp limestone pinnacles of the Ankarana massif, a landscape of canyons and subterranean rivers. The journey moves on to the coast, with boat excursions to Nosy Tanikely’s marine reserve, where hawksbill turtles glide over coral gardens, and to the sandbank connecting the two islets of Nosy Iranja.
Paced for discovery without exertion, this trip suits the discerning traveller who seeks both terrestrial exploration and marine leisure. It balances guided park visits with days at leisure, supported by private transfers and stays in select lodges and hotels. This is an ideal route for those wishing to experience Madagascar’s iconic landscapes and wildlife in comfort and seclusion.

You will be met at Ivato Airport and privately transferred to your hotel in the city centre. Time permitting, a short, guided tour introduces the capital before a pre-tour briefing.
After a morning exploring the local craft markets, you will be transferred to the airport for a domestic flight to Diego Suarez. Upon arrival in the north, a vehicle will be waiting to take you to your hotel.
Drive south to the Montagne d'Ambre National Park, a region of volcanic crater lakes and waterfalls. An afternoon's exploration by vehicle reveals the park's diverse viewpoints and forest trails.
A full day is dedicated to the further exploration of the park's endemic flora and fauna. Alternatively, one may enjoy a day at leisure at the lodge, immersed in the surrounding forest.
The journey continues southwards towards the Ankarana massif. A detour reveals the Red Tsingy, a geological formation of laterite and limestone which forms ephemeral spires.
Explore the karst landscape of Ankarana, a network of sharp limestone pinnacles, deep canyons and forested gorges. The park protects a high concentration of primates, including the crowned lemur.
A day at leisure to relax at the Iharana Bush Camp or arrange local excursions. Your guide and driver remain on hand for explorations in the vicinity.
An early departure leads to the port of Ankify for a private boat transfer to the island of Nosy Be. A new team will greet you at the port for the transfer to your hotel.
A full-day boat excursion visits Nosy Komba, known for its habituated black lemurs. The day continues on to Nosy Tanikely, a marine reserve with clear water ideal for snorkelling amongst diverse coral and fish.
Journey by boat to Nosy Iranja, composed of two islets connected by a narrow, two-kilometre sandbar revealed at low tide. The day is spent on the white-sand beaches and in the surrounding turquoise waters.
A final day at leisure on the island. Your guide is on hand to facilitate visits to local markets or arrange cultural experiences.
You will be privately transferred from your hotel to Nosy Be's airport in time for your international departure flight. Your guide will assist with airport formalities.
