On the road from Antananarivo to the lush forests of Andasibe, one stop is a must for all travellers: a visit to Peyrieras Nature Farm, also known as Madagascar Exotic. Located in Marozevo, approximately 75 km east of the capital on the RN2, this private reserve was founded by French entomologist André Peyriéras. It serves as a perfect introduction to Madagascar’s rich biodiversity, especially for nature lovers and enthusiasts of wildlife or macro photography.

A first encounter with the island’s iconic creatures
Peyrieras hosts an impressive collection of reptiles, amphibians, and insects — many of which are endemic and rarely spotted in the wild. Among the stars of the reserve:
- Chameleons of all sizes and colours, some miniature, others sporting surprising horns.
- The famous Uroplatus geckos, masters of camouflage.
- The strikingly red tomato frog.
- Snakes, including the mysterious Langaha madagascariensis with its elongated nose.
- Butterflies such as the stunning comet moth, visible depending on the season.
- Also tenrecs, fruit bats (flying foxes), and even crocodiles (hands off, please!).

And of course, lemurs :
One cannot forget these creatures that have made Madagascar famous. Next to the greenhouses and enclosures, a small wooded area allows visitors to observe semi-wild groups of sifakas and brown lemurs. These animals, though accustomed to human presence, remain free and return daily for feeding — often seen gracefully leaping through the trees, a delight to observe and photograph..
A mission of conservation and education :

Beyond its touristic appeal, the Peyrieras Reserve plays a key role in captive breeding and the preservation of threatened species. Thanks to its educational approach, it also provides an ideal entry point for understanding Madagascar’s fauna before venturing into nearby national parks such as Andasibe-Mantadia, just a few kilometres away.
An accessible and immersive experience for all :
The visit, guided in French or English (sometimes requiring help from your own guide), lasts around two hours and allows close observation of the animals in spacious greenhouses and enclosures. The site, nestled in a scenic valley surrounded by mango and lychee plantations, also offers a peaceful setting with views over the hills and a natural pond — a refreshing and tranquil moment in nature.
