Isalo, Ranohira & Anja Corridor
The classic RN7 sequence: near-guaranteed lemur sightings at Anja, sandstone canyons in Isalo, and the quiet town of Ranohira connecting the two.
South of Ambalavao, the RN7 straightens and the air dries. The granite domes of the highlands give way to the first sandstone outcrops, a clear signal that one is entering the Isalo corridor. This is not a single park but a narrative sequence: the community-run forest of Anja, the quiet staging town of Ranohira, and finally, the immense, eroded massif of Isalo itself. Unlike other stops along the RN7 that focus upon a single park, this corridor links wildlife, landscape, and logistics into a coherent multi-day experience.
A visit requires a minimum of two nights, typically based in Ranohira. The drive from the highlands allows for a half-day stop at Anja Reserve to see its ring-tailed lemurs, before one continues to Ranohira for the night. The following full day is dedicated to Isalo National Park‘s trails and natural pools. The corridor is accessible year-round, but the dry season from April to November offers the most comfortable hiking conditions, with cooler temperatures and minimal rainfall.

We recommend a minimum of two nights based in Ranohira. This allows for a stop at Anja en route and a full day to explore Isalo's main trails. Three nights permits more extensive hiking.
Yes. Anja offers a near-certainty of seeing ring-tailed lemurs up close, which is not guaranteed in the vast landscapes of Isalo. It is a focused wildlife stop that complements Isalo's scenic scale.
Yes, a certificated local guide is required for all visits inside Isalo National Park. Vivy Travel organises the best local guides, who are confirmed at the park office in Ranohira.
Isalo offers a range of trails, from easy one-hour walks to the Piscine Naturelle to strenuous full-day treks through canyons. Anja Reserve involves a gentle, guided walk of one to two hours on a well-defined path.
