Tsara Komba by Time + Tide

The journey ends on the volcanic sands of Nosy Komba, an island without roads or cars. A pirogue brings you ashore, where eight thatched lodges rise on stilts from the forest floor. You navigate stone pathways cut through a private nature reserve, alive with the sounds of lemurs and chameleons, to find your private deck facing the Mozambique Channel. The line between indoors and the forest dissolves.

Days follow the rhythm of the island. Mornings begin with coffee on your terrace, watching dhows sail past. Afternoons are spent on seaside loungers, spotting the pods of dolphins that frequent the bay. The evening meal is an event, a testament to Chef Tina’s slow food philosophy. A private table is set on your deck for grilled camarons and champagne, with only the sounds of the forest and the lapping water as accompaniment.

Exploration is by foot or by boat. Hike inland with a guide to find the island’s waterfalls and black lemur families. Take a dugout canoe to the marine park of Nosy Tanikely, where you can snorkel over intact coral reefs with sea turtles. Or journey to the mainland to Ambanja, to walk through the cocoa and vanilla plantations, breathing in the scent of raw chocolate and spices on the warm air.
