Day by day itinerary
Depart Antananarivo for the eastern forests, a journey punctuated by a visit to the Pereyras Reserve with its concentration of chameleons and amphibians. An evening walk introduces the forest's nocturnal inhabitants.
The day is dedicated to Analamazaotra National Park, listening for the distinct call of the Indri, the island's largest lemur. In the afternoon, visit Vakona Reserve's lemur islet for close encounters.
A full day of overland travel from the eastern rainforests, crossing the central highlands to the city of Antsirabe. The journey reveals the dramatic shift in landscape from humid forest to terraced hills.
The route continues westward toward the coast, descending from the highlands to the warmer, drier plains of the Menabe region. Arrive in the coastal town of Morondava in the late afternoon.
Witness the sunrise over the Avenue of the Baobabs before continuing to Kirindy Forest Reserve. After a diurnal walk, a night expedition offers a chance to observe the elusive fossa and other nocturnal species.
Begin the return journey eastward, breaking the long drive with an overnight stay in Miandrivazo. The route retraces the path from the dry western lowlands back toward the central plateau.
